M.Sc(Satellite Meteorology and Weather Informatics)- Two Years Course
Centre for Earth and Atmospheric Science in JNTU Hyderabad offers two-year Post – Graduate programme (M.Sc) in Satellite Meteorology and Weather Informatics. It may be noted that this is the only Centre / Department in the State of Telangana which offers such an important PG Course.
Recording of weather observations, analysis of weather data on a regional and global scale and techniques for prediction of weather systems - tropical cyclones like recent Hudud, forecasting of urban floods and floods over major river basins, droughts, earthquakes, heat waves & cold waves etc making use of latest technology namely Remote Sensing, Geographical Information System (GIS), weather Radars, weather Satellites briefly speaks of the uniqueness of our Course. From day to day weather changes to Climate change ranging from decades to hundreds of years; impact of global warming, El Nino and La Nina effects on the global weather and more particularly on Indian Summer Monsoon are some of the highlights of this course.
As regards the infrastructure, the Centre is well equipped with surface meteorological observatory, C-band weather radar; and laboratories for weather analysis and Geo informatics. The centre has well qualified and widely experienced faculty to teach and train the students. The centre also has expertise to organize and execute weather modification programmes like cloud seeding to enhance the rainfall.
This course has started in 2006 and so far, many of our Students got employed in various ORGINATIONS.
Present Position:
· Presently seven (8) research scholars are doing research on various aspects in Meteorology, Oceanography and analysis of satellite pictures.
· Presently Seven Batch of M.Sc student’s came out.
